Workshop
Self of the Therapist with Escalated Clients
Friday May 19, 2023
About The Workshop
This workshop will create space for attachment-based experiential therapists to fine-tune ourselves as therapeutic instruments in our clinical work with a focus on being present with escalated couples. Participants will be guided through exercises, and role plays to notice our own affective experiences and provide guidance in utilizing ourselves in an attuned way in the therapeutic process when intense, secondary emotions are up and running in the session. This workshop will support participants to be more informed on how our self of therapist processes interact with the client’s processes in treatment, and to grow in our confidence in working with escalated clients.
Objectives
- Participants will be aware of their affective responses to when clients escalate in session, and how they can ground themselves to stay attuned to the clinical process.
- Participants will learn interventions to de-escalate and regain focus in the session.
- Participants will learn how to access the primary emotions and attachment meaning embedded in escalation.
