SUMMARY:Tangoing with Blocks in EFCT\, presented by Eli Castro
DESCRIPTION:IN PERSON EVENT\nTangoing with Blocks in EFCT\nStaying on the E
FT Map\n\n\n\nPresenter: Eli Castro\, Trainer in Training (mentored by Rya
 n Rana)\nDate: Saturday\, May 30\, 2026\nTime: 9:00 am – 4:30 pm CDT\nLo
 cation: Depaul University\, Chicago\, IL\n\n\n\nAbout the Workshop\nBlocks
are inherent to the change process in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy.
They often emerge precisely at moments of emotional risk\, when partners
are invited to access vulnerability\, share new and risky experiences\, or
respond to their partner’s vulnerable disclosure. When this happens\, t
herapists may find themselves feeling disoriented\, tempted to psychoeduca
te\, or even reacting defensively toward the client.\n\nThis workshop expl
ores how to recognize and work with blocks in EFCT while remaining grounde
d\, attuned and process-focused. Using an attachment lens\, participants w
ill learn to understand blocks as attachment-protective responses rather t
han resistance\, and to respond through careful tracking\, reframing\, and
refocusing interventions that maintain safety and deepen emotional engage
ment.\n\nEmphasis will be placed on staying aligned with the EFT map while
helping couples move forward when the process becomes stuck. Through clin
ical examples\, conceptual teaching\, and experiential exercises\, therapi
sts will strengthen their ability to intervene effectively while embodying
the EFT therapeutic stance.\nLearning Objectives\nParticipants will learn
to:\n\n Identify and differentiate common types of blocks that emerge ac
ross the moves of the EFT Tango in couple therapy.\n Conceptualize blocks
through an attachment lens\, including consideration of sociocultural con
text\, and articulate their protective function at both the intrapersonal
and interactional levels.\n Respond effectively in real time to blocks in
session by applying attuned\, process oriented interventions consistent w
ith the EFT map and therapeutic stance.\n\nAbout the Presenter\n\n\nEliza
Castro\, ICEEFT Trainer in Training mentored by Ryan Rana\, is a Brazilian
clinical psychologist based in Chile\, working primarily with individuals
and couples from a trauma-informed and attachment-based lens. She is an I
CEEFT Certified EFT Supervisor and a Trainer Candidate\, as well as co-fou
nder and co-leader of EFT Chile\, a growing EFT community in South America
. Eliza specializes in attachment injuries\, trauma\, and complex relation
al dynamics in couple therapy\, with particular interest in how blocks eme
rge during emotionally corrective processes. https://mariaelizacastro.com/
