EFT Listening Session: Centering Marginalized Voices & Creating Opportunities for Healing Connection

About the Event:
This listening session is designed for people of all races who consider themselves part of the ChicagoEFT community. The purpose is to come together and provide a holding environment for conversations about race. We recognize that therapists of color have not had the room to name and describe their experiences within our organization. The first goal of this session is to provide a framework for active listening and holding the racialized wounds of subjugated therapists. The second goal is to provide White therapists the tools to listen non-defensively in dialogue regarding race. The aim is to have a new, deeper, honest and transparent dialogue that acknowledges the impact of structural racism in our lives. The expectation is that you will show up physically, emotionally and intellectually, participating openly and honestly in group interactions.
Learning Objectives: Participants will
- Identify habitual behavior connected to privileged and subjugated identities.
- Engage in self-exploration and examine barriers to addressing race in therapeutic manner.
- Practice new strategies for genuine and empathic conversations

About the Facilitator:
Cadmona Hall PhD, LMFT, FT is an Associate Professor in the Department of Couple and Family Therapy at Adler University in Chicago, IL. Dr. Hall is an Approved Supervisor and Clinical Fellow in the American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy. Additionally she is certified as a fellow in thanatology through the Association for Death Education & Counseling. She is a co-founder and CEO of the Central Division of Hall & Hay Consulting Associates, LLP. In her role at Hall & Hay Consulting, she provides professional grief and loss education and training.
