| Bio | I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who earned my master’s degree from the University of Chicago, where I specialized in a program of study that focused on the newest forms of behavioral therapy. I work with individuals, couples, families, and adolescents. I am certified in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), and have significant training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), both evidenced based practices. My approach looks beyond diagnoses and explores the larger patterns and processes of behavior and thinking that get in the way of people’s lives and relationships. I take the position that experiences like worry, sadness, anger, grief, conflict, reactivity, pain, uncertainty, and more, are the normal and natural outcomes of being human, and often contain important information about what we value most. I believe that you cannot understand anyone without also understanding their context. Context can have many factors, including: age, race, sex, gender, sexuality, ability, faith and more. I make space to understand the intersections of all of the parts of a person that help to shape who they are. Above all, my mission is to show up to every session with understanding, empathy, authenticity, care, humor, flexibility, humility, and humanness. Before becoming a therapist I worked in community mental health and as a special education teacher. In my personal life I enjoy simple pleasures like cooking, physical activity, good coffee, time with my dog, eating pizza, and beach days. |
